Sigmund Freud saved by Nazi admirer

Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, was saved from Hitler’s persecution of the Jews by a long-standing Nazi who was fascinated with his work, a new book reveals.

The fate of Freud and his family in Vienna hung in the balance after Hitler’s forces took over Austria in 1938. The psychoanalyst was first protected, then helped to escape to Britain, by Anton Sauerwald, a Nazi who had been put in charge of his assets.

  1. socratoad  Very interesting methinks!

    1. Eric Goldstein  Can’t help but think about all the people who weren’t so lucky - what contributions to society could they have had!?

      1. socratoad  Me too Eric, tis mind boggling to even try to understand how man the rationalizing animal could cause so much inhumanity to cause the snuffing out the lives of so many millions of innocents.

The closest I have ever come to gaining even a tiny sliver of understanding was to read and reread many times the book “The Sane Society” by Eric Fromm
